It's been a pretty same-y week in terms of the weekly UK sales charts, except for this week's number one: Mortal Kombat X. Not only has it shot straight to the top of the charts, but it's also broken Mortal Kombat UK sales records. It seems that it's huge push to make the game even more outlandish and tape -ality to the end of every word has earned the franchise a new record, as well as an 83 on Metacritic. GTA V continues its eventual push to the top by moving up a place to #2 thanks to its PC release , while previous Number 1 Battlefield Hardline falls two places into 3rd.

FIFA 15 drops back into 4th after pushing back up into the top 3, with PS4 hit Bloodborne rising up a place into 5th and Far Cry 4, ever the stalwart, dropping to 6th. COD: Advanced Warfare has its rise up the charts scuppered, languishing in 7th, and Minecraft's Xbox and Playstation editions rise from obscurity to 8th and 9th respectively, with Dying Light clinging onto 10th. What have we learnt this week? That when a new AAA game comes out, people go crazy over it, then resort back to the games of last year.

In other news, Steam has updated its service so players who have spent less than $5 on the platform will have restricted access, including voting on Greenlight, participating in Steam Market and even sending friend invites. Your first reaction may be that this is a shameless money-grab by Valve, but this is actually something that'll really help Steam. As explained by Valve on the page: "One of the best pieces of information we can compare between regular users and malicious users are their spending habits, as typically the accounts being used [maliciously] have no investment in their longevity."

Basically, Valve's saying that, in order to stop users spamming, phishing and hacking (As well as developers making fake accounts to Greenlight their game) they're putting features like the Market behind a paywall to make hacking an expensive business, ideally putting them off.

What do you guys think? What do you think of Mortal Kombat X, if you bought it? And do you think these new measures will help stop spammers? Tell us in the comments!
